This "warm coast", is an area of beautiful coastline, with endless coves and approximately 35kms of sandy beaches. At the boundary with the Costa Blanca, the most popular resorts are probably those to be found around the Mar Menor, (a particular favourite with windsurfers). Those looking for a health cure would do well to investigate the black mud to be found around the shores of parts of the Mar Menor which are said to be particularly beneficial to those suffering from rheumatism and arthritis. The holiday resort of La Manga, has been built along a thin sandy stretch and separates the Mediterranean from the Mar Menor. La Manga's particularly fine golf course attracts top golfers from all over the world.

The typically Spanish fishing port of Puerto de Mazarron was featured on Channel 5's "Hot Properties" programme - a wonderful holiday location and an excellent place to buy a second home. Nearby Bolnuevo, with its unusual eroded soft rocks, is another good place from which to start your holiday and explore this exciting coastline. Cartagena, was constructed in 223BC and when the Romans conquered it in 209 BC they called it "New Carthage". Excavations in the city include a Roman Street and the Byzantine Wall. It is still a major port with a naval base. Lorca is Murcia's 3rd most important town and is an oasis in one of the most arid areas of Europe.
