Situated on the Costa Blanca only about 15 minutes from Alicante Airport,
La Marina boasts some of the most spectacular beaches in the area and
a climate recommended by the World Health Organization, as being one of
the best for heart and breathing conditions. Temperatures in the summer
months can reach up to 40 degrees, but rarely drop below 5 degrees in
the winter time. La Marina town itself has an abundant supply of bars
and restaurants to suit every taste and pocket, as well as excellent supermarkets
to supply all your needs for a stay here. The 17 kms of blue flag beach
which stretches between Santa Pola and Torrevieja is easy to access and
there is plenty of free parking behind the sand dunes. At La Marina beach
itself there is a beach bar and the restaurant just behind La Marina beach
called La Pinada specialises in fish and grilled meats, but also serves
snacks and drinks both inside and on the terrace. In the surrounding area
there is an abundance of wildlife, with the Salinas de Santa Pola having
one of the largest flocks of flamingos in Spain. The famous El Hondo nature
reserve is also close by. With mountains inland and salt lakes to either
side, the area has its own microclimate with little rain. No wonder "Homes
Overseas" Magazine (2006), listed this area in the top 10 of emigration
destinations.
