Situated along the southern coast of Portugal, the Algarve is well known for its mild climate With an average of 320 days of sunshine per year, a villa holiday here, at any time, is a must. The Algarve is well known for the most beautiful sandy beaches, Praia da Rocha, being one of the most famous. Visitors can choose from a variety of resorts, ranging from small fishing villages to large sophisticated towns. This is a perfect location for golfers, with some top courses at Quinta do Lago, Vale de Lobo, Vilamoura & Penina. Quinta da Lago has a beautiful stretch of beach with dunes. Popular resorts in the Algarve include Albufeira, Carvoeiro, Portimao and Lagos. Albufeira gets busy in summer but has a superb beach.

The quiet resort of Carvoeiro is particularly pretty. Santa Barbara de Nexe is a small village set in the hills near to Vilamoura and Loule. As well as its Saturday market, Loule has a good selection of shops and restaurants and is one of the oldest towns in the Algarve.

On the West Coast, the capital Lisbon, has a history dating back more than two millennia and as well as the modern city & port, there is plenty of fine architecture to admire. Oporto, of course, is famous for its port wine. Estoril & Cascais are among other attractive West Coast resorts.

Much of the interior remains largely unspoilt by tourism. A trip to the Serra de Monchique will provide some stunning scenery away from the hustle and bustle of coastal towns.
